WoW Class Guide: Druid
For Druids, Nature is your best ally; this is because their damage spells are
mostly of the Nature type, while their Healing spells are all of the Nature type, and their melee forms, in a
sense, are “natural” as well.
Bear vs. Dire-Bear
The difference between the Bear and Dire-Bear forms is analogous to the difference
between Plate and Mail armour: the Dire-Bear has a higher armour value.
Bear form comes with an armour multiplier of 180%, while Dire-Bear has an armour
multiplier of 370%, so in a sense the difference is similar to what you’d get if you learned to wear a new type of
armour.
However, Druids can’t actually learn a higher armour than what they have to begin
with. They start and end the game with Leather only. Thus, the way to upgrade a Druid’s armour is to assume one of
the Bear forms – Bear at level 10, and Dire-Bear at level 40, which happens to be the same point in time at which
other classes can learn new armour types.

The Bear form can be considered the Druid’s tanking form – more on that
later.
At level 20, Druids also learn the Cat form, which Druids can use to significantly
increase their melee DPS (Damage Per Second).
In Cat form, a Druid’s melee Attack Power (AP) goes up by 40 points plus the
character’s agility rating; in other words, if you have 60 agility, then your Attack Power in Cat form will go up
by 100.
All you need to do to acquire the Bear and Cat forms is reach the necessary level.
They don’t require any sort of talent specialization, although you can only really get the best out of these forms
by using your talent points wisely in the Feral Talent Tree. Both forms come with certain skills that aren’t
available in non-Feral forms (Claw and Prowl for Cat, Maul and Swipe for Bear), while attempting to cast non-Feral
spells while in one of these forms will cause a Druid to revert to humanoid form.
The Travel Form
Druids gain the Travel Form, which increases movement speed by 40%, at level 30.
This can be pretty useful, although not as useful as the 60% speed increase that comes with a regular riding
mount.
Druids do get that 60% movement speed increase, though, at level 68, with the Flight
form, which upgrades to the Swift Flight form (with a movement speed increase of 280%) at level 71, provided you
have a Riding skill of 300.
The regular Travel form doesn’t have an upgrade like the Flight form does, and if
you go back to the Classic World, you will be limited to the 40% speed increase without a land mount.
Talent-Based Forms
Druids can also access the Moonkin and Tree of Life forms with the right talent
increases in place. The Moonkin form requires the corresponding 51-point talent in the Balance Talent Tree.
Similarly, the Tree of Life form requires the appropriate 51-point talent from the Restoration Talent Tree. Note
that, in order to gain both forms, you’ll need to activate a second spec with the necessary talents.
