Horde Onyxia Attunement  

If you want to become attuned for Onyxia you have to be level 55 in order to take the first quest, The remainder of the quest chain involves a lot of traveling, and fighting. This is all worth it though since the key to Onyxia’s Lair is waiting for you at the end of the chain. In order to obtain the Drakefire Amulet you will have to follow the following steps:

Step 1:

Go to Kargath and take the quest Warlord Goretooth’s Command from Warlord Goretooth. This item should be used to receive the quest Warlord’s Command.

Step 2:

Go to Lower Blackrock Spire in the Blackrock Mountains and kill Omokk, Voone and Wyrmthalak inside the instance. You will be able to find the Blackrock Documents on the corpse of Wyrmthalak. Go back to Kargath to hand in the quest.

Step 3:

Take Eitrigg's Wisdom and head to Orgrimmar where you should talk to Thralls advisor Eitrigg in Thralls Chamber. Talk to Thrall whom will give you For The Horde!  

Step 4:

Now it’s time to go to Upper Blackrock Spire and kill Warchief Rend Blackhand. You’ll have to get a raid together in order to kill this boss. Loot Blackhand’s head and head back to Orgrimmar.

Step 5:

Take the follow-up quest from Thrall and search for Rexxar in Desolace. He patrols the big road that goes through this area. Hand in the quest and take Rexxar’s Testament.

Step 6:

Head to Myranda the Hag in the Uthor’s Tomb, Western Plaguelands where you hand in Rexxar’s Testament and take Oculus Illusions.

Step 7:

Head back to Upper Blackrock Spire where you should gather Dragon Eyes. You can collect these after killing the Dragon Whelps.

Step 8:

Hand in the Dragon Eyes in the Western Plaguelands at Myranda the Hag. She’ll give you the follow-up quest called Emberstrife and an Amulet of Draconic Subversion.

Step 9:

Head to Wyrmbog, Dustwallow Marsh where you should look for Emberstrife’s Den. Use the Amulet Myranda gave you and talk to Emberstrife.

Step 10:

Emberstrife will give you a new quest called Test of Skulls. This quests requires you to kill a dragon called Scryer in Winterspring. You’ll need two or three people to take this baby down. Take Scryer’s Skull back to Emberstrife.

Step 11:

You’ll have to kill another dragon called Somnus which can be found in the Swamp of Sorrows. Look for her on the eastside of the map. Loot the skull and take this one back to Emberstrife as well.

Step 12:

It’s then time to kill another dragon called Chronalis which can be found in Tanaris in the little mountainous area in the east part of the map. Take this skull as well back to Emberstrife.

Step 13:

The fourth and last dragon that Emberstrife wants you to kill is Axtroz which can be found in the southeast part of the Wetlands. Take the skull back to Emberstrife in the Marsh whom will give you the follow-up quest called Ascension.

Step 14:

Find Rexxar again to complete this quest. Rexxar will give you the quest Blood of the Black Dragon Champion. This quest requires you to go to Upper Blackrock Spire and kill the final boss of the raid instance called General Drakkisath.

Step 15:

Take Drakkisath’s Head to Rexxar who will reward you with the Drakefire Amulet. Carrying this amulet in your bag will allow you to set foot in Onyxia’s Lair.

A couple patches and perhaps an expansion or two back even Blizzard made Onyxia’s Lair open to everybody, meaning that nobody has to have the Amulet to enter Onyxia’s Lair. It must be said however that the quest chain is awesome and provides you with some great lore. If you can manage to take one or two level 80’s with you on this great quest chain it will be both fun and rewarding. Good luck!
